The table opposite shows the fire escape furniture which we reccomend and fit as standard. The fire exit systems listed have been chosen on merit of reliability and cost effectiveness, this has been determined by exhaustively testing many different fire exit products in order to be able to offer the best and most suitable doors to our customers.
The correct fire exit furniture for any given application depends on two factors:
1) The level of security required
2) The intended use of the building:
- Fire exit furniture classified as and tested to BS EN 179 – This type of fire exit furniture should only be used when the intended end use of the building to which the door is being fitted is that of a non-public nature. Where this type of fire exit furniture is fitted there is a requirement of prior knowledge of its operation and its use is limited to applications whereby panic situations are not forseen.
- Fire exit furniture classified as and tested to BS EN 1125 – This type of fire exit furniture can be used when the intended end use of the building to which the door is being fitted is that of a public nature. Where this type of fire exit furniture is fitted there is no requirement of prior knowledge of its operation and it can be used where panic situations are forseen.

Fire exit doors will almost always be external opening by their very nature, however, Kirncroft steel doors are designed so that they can open both internally into a building and externally out of a building.
- When an internal opening door is specified, weatherkits and rain deflectors are supplied as standard.
Terminology:
- From the perspective of facing the door from the outside of the building
- If the hinges are on the left then this is a left hand door and vice versa for right hand hung doors
- If the door opens externally then this is an external door and vice versa for internal opening doors
- The possible ordering permutations are – LH EXT, RH EXT, LH INT, RH INT
Kirncroft fire exit doors can be customised to suite your requirements.
